C.) Lexi is the one character who should have worked out her own personal conflicts surrounding her eating disorder and jealousy towards Cassi. Lexi suffers from an eating disorder which caused her to miscarry. Instead of telling the truth, she chose to engage in extreme behaviors to cover up her miscarriage. She collected her own blood to damage Cassi’s car with, lied to her boyfriend about Cassi attacking her, and then revealed Violet’s secret on the school website. She is someone who, instead of addressing her own personal demons, decided to spin an elaborate web to assassinate Cassi’s character and ultimately attacked Cassi by attempting to end her life. Lexi has a slew of issues to work out; her eating disorder, lying to her friends about Cassi, her jealousy, and finally coming to terms with her grief related to losing her child. Lexi is suffering from an extreme internal conflict. Lexi needs to tackle her eating disorder as it is the foundation of her conflict. Once she has come to terms with the eating disorder and worked towards overcoming it, she needs to address her grief related to losing her child and the guilt of knowing her eating disorder is what caused her to miscarry in the first place. Her eating disorder is the basis of her self-hatred that she projected onto Cassi. The eating disorder it what also caused such intense jealousy. Lexi believed if she turned the group against Cassi and gain everyone’s sympathy, she could become the most popular member of their group and school. G.) Qualities I dislike of a particular character is Violet’s ability to so easily turn on her best friend. Violet turned against Cassi instead of confronting her and asking about Cassi’s involvement in revealing Violet’s secret of drinking alcohol. Violet insists she and Cassi are not just friends or even best friends, she describes her relationship with Cassi as sisterly. I strongly dislike how easily the group all turned against Cassi but it is disturbing that Violet reacted so negatively towards Cassi. If Violet valued Cassi so much and knew Cassi so well as to understand her character, she should have easily realizes something was amiss. She spent four years spending time with Cassi, getting to know her heart, etc, that she should have, at the very least, approached Cassi to get her side of the story. It is odd how Violet abandoned her friend instead of being curious and wanting answers from Cassi. It’s disturbing how the entire group chose to blindly believe the lies Lexi spread about Cassi without questioning their validity but Violet was the closest to Cassi. Violet should have questioned everything she was told and question everyone who was involved.
